Soon after purchasing our old farmhouse in 1997, I met members of the Saco Valley Fiber Artists and discovered that I could combine my love of animals, art, and teaching into one endeavor. We now have a small flock of sheep, along with a variety of other animals whom we enjoy at Four Winds Farm.

After learning to spin wool, I was quickly hooked. The fiber fanatic in me began looking at things with a different "twist". I'd find myself eyeing just about any animal with long hair and wondering, "Can I spin that?" Somehow I began running into people who wished to have their pet's fur spun into yarn. Of course I was willing to try. The results were both surprising and beautiful. Many breeds of dogs produce fur that when spun resembles cashmere. And no, it does not smell like wet dog! After the oil is removed from the fur, the fur itself has no odor.
